Alloy 600 wire is a nickel-chromium alloy that provides resistance to oxidation at high temperatures. For Example, Alloy 600 is used in heat treating equipment, electronic parts, aircraft engines, chemical processing piping and applications involving temperatures as high as 2000 °F.
In addition, this wire is commonly used as a corrosion-resistant alloy due to its resistance to a wide range of acids and alkalis. This alloy is also known to be used in the furnace and heat‐treating field due to its excellent resistance to oxidation and scaling at 980 °C.
Other uses include:
- Processes involving chlorination.
- Handling water environments, where stainless steels often fail by cracking.
- Nuclear reactors including steam generator boiling and primary water piping systems.
- Preheaters and turbine condensers with maximum service temperatures around 450 °C.
